The accommodation is on ground floor level and comprises:-

Traditional French style kitchen for cooking /eating and convivial conversation. Fully equipped with dish washer, under-counter fridge (additional fridge space and freezer in garage), gas cooker, microwave, extractor fan and concealed lighting above work surface. A dining table with seating for 8 people, and easy chairs. Original stone fireplace, oak beams, farm -house doors, picture lights, ceiling fan and a log fire. Tiled floor.

For practicality and comfort we adapt the furniture arrangements to suite the number of guests staying and also take into account the time of year.

In the early Spring and during the Autumn, when the days are cooler and the wood burner is aglow the summer furnishings are replaced with easy chairs and tapestry curtains to provide a warm and cosy feel.

Leading from the kitchen on one side is the master bedroom with antique double bed and bathroom en -suite (jet-spray shower).

Another bathroom leads off from the kitchen with jet-spray shower and washing machine.

Master bedroom on the left with its magnificent antique bed

On the right the twin room with the exposed stone walls

Up three steps to the other side of the kitchen/living area are two more bedrooms, one with twin beds and, adjoining, a children's room, sleeping 4.

All bedrooms have oak beams, are wood paneled, with picture lights and ceiling fans for summer days and nights. Wood flooring with scatter rugs. For early spring, autumn and winter oil-filled radiators keep the rooms warm and cosy. Both bathrooms have tiled floors, extractor fans and heaters.

The property sleeps a maximum of 8 people and is equally suitable for a couple with or without children, four adults, or a group of 8.  With this size of group ideally the mix of people we recommend to be 4 adults and 4 children (including teenagers).   Bearing in mind the children’s room has bunk beds.  Please note that you only pay for the number of people staying at anytime, including July and August.  If you’d like family or friends to join you during the course of your holiday that’s not a problem,    Let us know what your plans are and we adjust the amount to be paid based on the number of days the additional people are staying.     Click on rental rates to view our weekly rates.

The garden area  - both front and back doors of the cottage open from the kitchen/living area on to a large garden area which surrounds the cottage.  This is partially enclosed, but can be fully enclosed for families with young children or if you want to confine your dog from roaming too far.  It’s particularly easy for people who may have problems managing steps, as you step out from the cottage at the same level into the garden.  There is a barbecue, sun loungers, tables and chairs and umbrellas.

Parking is off-street and there is plenty of space for a number of cars.

The lake is a short stroll from the cottage across our land which the renter is welcome to use and enjoy. It’s about a couple of acres in size allowing for a really good swim.  It nestles in a secluded, protected location and is very private. It’s wonderful for swimming in as the water is continually flowing in and out thus keeping it well oxygenated. There’s absolutely no chemicals or pollution. For keen fishermen it is also well stocked with carp, roach, rudd and perch.  We keep a rowing boat for guest’s use and there are lifejackets .  There are two piers to fish from.   And from the long pier it’s easy to launch the boat or use the steps when going for a swim.   There is another barbecue at the lake side, plus picnic tables and loungers.  So take a picnic down or enjoy an early evening barbecue lakeside.   In the height of the summer it doesn’t get dark until 10pm.

Please note – for those people who have difficulty walking, the distance to the lake is not far and is across a flat field and then the land slopes down to the lake.   We do have another entrance to the lake which can easily be accessed by car, with parking space, which shortens the walking distance.

In the garage, which is attached to the cottage, there is plenty of storage space.  We also provide an additional fridge and a freezer for guest’s use.   An utility sink with hot and cold water, an in-door clothes line and additional umbrellas and outside furniture, plus recreational bits and bobs for the lake.

The property has been newly restored to the highest standard, retaining all the original features and using old materials. Each room has been tastefully decorated and furnished with an eye for detail, comfort and practicality.

The appeal of the property is in its idyllic setting with the unique feature of having its own private lake. It is a totally natural environment.

A LOCATION TO SUIT EVERYONE. For the family holiday a great place for children to feel free, to have fun, to roam, play games, take bicycle rides, mess about in the boats, swim, do a spot of fishing and observe all nature's wonders. One such young guest, Taisy, has a wonderful feel for nature and is extremely observant. During her holiday with her Mum and Dad in August 2008 she very competently photographed some of the local wildlife and then after she went home did some additional research and the end result was her own Wildlife Guide for everyone to enjoy. See Taisy's Guide to Wildlife at Maison Jaune. Thank you Taisy for a super job well done.

For the adults an opportunity to relax and unwind in a peaceful and rejuvenating environment, and for those more energetic to walk or cycle the quiet country roads. Being in a Regional Natural Park the walking and riding tracks are well-signposted.

For fishermen the opportunity to fish a virgin, well-stocked lake. Fishing parties are welcome during the season. We are happy to offer a package with accommodation and meals for groups, incorporating our bed and breakfast facility at our house, La Boucherie, which is just 300 meters up the road from the cottage.   Click on Party Venue for Small Groups for more information.

A perfect retreat for the writer or artist. Or for a couple seeking a comfortable, quiet base from which to go sightseeing, house hunting and do some wine tasting.

You are welcome to bring your dog/s. There is an excellent vet in the nearby hamlet, who is fully conversant with the Pet Travel Scheme (PETS) for pets returning to the UK. Information on bringing your Pet.

There are plenty of interesting and picturesque places to visit both nearby and further afield.  The lovely medieval town of Périgueux is just 50 kilometres away. Brantome, the Venice of the Dordogne, a 45 minute drive, taking in St Jean de Cole – one of the beautiful villages of France, on your way.  The famous Lascaux caves at Montignac, plus the La Roque St Christophe nearby, are about an hour away and for a good day’s sight-seeing visit Sarlat and the Dordogne valley.  The area has a wealth of prehistoric caves to visit, authentic old market towns and beautiful villages. For more detailed information click on Dordogne Information.

Bed linen is provided and sets of towels can be hired.   We make up the beds for when you arrive.

The cottage is equipped with wi-fi and TV with French stations and satellite TV for English channels.  DVD player.
